Technology Industry Experts: Frank Casey

Frank Casey, VP of Product Management & Development, SunGard Availability Services

Frank Casey drives the development of cutting-edge managed services for SunGard, leveraging new technologies such as virtualization.  Starting in 2001, he lead the launch of SunGard's managed services offering, capitalizing on existing infrastructure designed for traditional recovery purposes.  Frank is customer-minded; he is always leading his team to find the best solution to meet each individual customer’s needs, and then looking for opportunities to leverage these unique solutions across SunGard’s broad base of end users.

Frank boasts more than 20 years experience in the IT industry. Prior to joining SunGard, he managed a team of 50 people at Globix, which included overseeing the network operations center and customer service teams.  He was also responsible for developing a quality control department for the engineering group focused on the company’s CRM system.  Prior to Globix, Frank has held various IT management positions in industry verticals including medical, education, wholesale food, insurance and cable industries.  While is career has spanned many disciplines, he has focused on managing technical teams providing support for end users and customers.

Frank recently completed a part-time undergraduate program at Cabrini College, earning his B.A. in Organizational Management.  He is currently pursuing a Masters in Leadership at Cabrini, as well.

Commentary:

IT isn’t here just for its own sake.  Our main mission is always to be anticipating and satisfying the individual needs of the customers – the end users – who depend on IT to do their jobs day-in and day-out.  This is particularly important today as end users become more savvy and sophisticated consumers of IT and related services, while at the same time, IT itself becomes more sophisticated – a powerful combination.  Back in the 90s, end users were largely considered “IT illiterate” and not consulted as part of major IT efforts within the enterprise.  Now we know they can help to drive efficiencies as the end user joins the table as an active participant in the process, becoming more self-sufficient all the while.  This is a shift that suits how SunGard operates – we remain close to the customer, involving players beyond the core IT team, to keep sight of our main goal – to satisfy their specific business and IT needs.  This is all the more important as IT becomes more consumerized and “self-service.”
