Bob Parker is an expert in aligning enterprise needs for higher levels of availability with SunGard’s AdvancedRecovery services. He is well-versed in the latest trends in storage replication, and works with the SunGard team to develop services satisfying customer requirements for new levels of disaster recovery – leveraging tools from traditional tape-based back-up to real-time replication and electronic vaulting.
Bob has been focused on high availability solutions for a number of years. Prior to managing AdvancedRecovery services, he supported the sales team in educating the market about the benefits of high availability. He also worked directly with vendors to develop new high availability solutions specifically designed for minimal data loss and reduction of the recovery window. He also assisted customers with crisis management during alert and disaster scenarios, which allowed him to see first-hand the challenges customers face in these situations.
Bob has had a long career with SunGard, starting out as the Supervisor of IBM MidRange Operations at the Philadelphia MegaCenter and was responsible for the daily management of the IBM Midrange Recovery Platform including the AS/400, RS/6000 and RS/6000 SP platforms. In this role, he managed the client testing schedule and a staff of 11 recovery specialists who assisted SunGard customers with recovery of their systems.
Prior to SunGard, Bob spent six years at Cardone Industries. He was both a Database Administrator and Data Center Operations Manager, responsible for change control management, quality assurance of software, database integrity, security, and performance of two IBM AS/400 systems. He spent his first three years as an Information Services Specialist for the Corporate and Inventory Planning department.
Bob graduated from Messiah College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a strong emphasis in computers. Since that time, he has attended many industry specific training courses relating to programming, system performance, and storage management. In 2006, Bob graduated with an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix.
Commentary:
The disaster recovery landscape is rapidly evolving. No longer can companies solely rely on back-up tapes to help ensure they can get their business up and running within the aggressive recovery time objectives (RTOs) often established by the business side of the house. IT leaders trust us to provide advanced levels of information and systems availability, leveraging the latest technology on the market, such as virtualization and real-time replication. Every company has different expectations – we can help each one individually establish best practices, test their plans and execute on a recovery in the specific timeframe they require.
